Every conversation carries weight. When it comes to the world of technology, phone calls, and regular day conversation, we miss some things when we aren’t direct.

We deprive ourselves of the outcome we desire because we feel uncomfortable with asking or informing the people we talk to.

To avoid miscommunication, unnecessary stress, and bad outcomes, we must be more direct.

    What is direct communication?

Direct communication involves saying what a person thinks and feels, and it is marked by active listening and effective feedback. It is clear, straightforward, and involves the two-way, free-flowing sharing of thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

The more straightforward you can be, the quicker you’ll get to a solution or understanding. Personally, I’m working on it and know that I can do better and I am getting better.

Everyone communicates differently, but direct communication is something that more people should adopt into their conversations because both parties can reach a common ground much faster.

    Why indirect communication is bad.

Indirect communication is acting out rather than directly saying what a person is thinking or feeling using facial expressions, tone of voice, and/or gestures.

No one can guess what you’re thinking. The way you communicate could be the complete opposite of how you feel and it’s the incorrect way of going about things.

Be a better listener, try to be understanding, and see both points of view from an unbiased perspective. It’s much easier said than done. One thing that is certain is that your conversations will take far more work if you’re indirect.

    Final Thought

Communicating isn’t easy, but it can be with effort, understanding, and patience. We can all get along much better as long as we’re direct and firm with the words we say.

It doesn’t have to be a guessing game when you’re direct. You can be certain, feel secure, and much more confident.

If you want to see a change in the way people perceive you, try being more direct.
