Titans sign All-American wrestler Adam Coon as offensive lineman
The Tennessee Titans have built an impressive offensive line and system that has helped All-Pro running back Derrick Henry win back-to-back rushing titles.
No wonder some within the club think they may be able to turn a novice into a contributor up front.
According to ESPN's Turron Davenport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Titans signed three-time All-American wrestler Adam Coon as an offensive lineman ahead of the weekend. The 26-year old hasn't played football at a competitive level in nearly a decade but wrestled at 6-foot-5 and 286 pounds, and that was before he was on a football diet and training inside an NFL weight room.
Per Cody Goodwin of the Detroit Free Press, Coon failed to qualify for the Summer Olympics last month.
As Mike Moraitis of Titans Wire noted, Tennessee is holding mandatory minicamp sessions from June 15-17, so the franchise taking a flier on an unknown product who is a proven athlete such as Coon at this portion of the offseason makes sense. Perhaps the Jacksonville Jaguars attempting to turn Tim Tebow into a tight end this summer will give teams around the NFL similar ideas beyond 2021.
