AKRON — The Community Response Fund for Nonprofits at Akron Community Foundation has provided more than $670,000 in funding since March 2020.

Initially, the Community Response Fund for Nonprofits was created to provide flexible resources to areas affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it has now extended its efforts to promote inclusion and equity for the greater community of Akron.

About $98,000 was awarded to 37 local nonprofits to support diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused projects and programs during the eighth and final round of grants from this fund.

The fund includes a $3,500 grant to South Street Ministries to support the “Across the Lake” video series. The project will consist of a series of candid video interviews with locals exploring the past, present and future of the Kenmore and Summit Lake neighborhoods. It aims to encourage discussions and educate the Akron community about the historical and current racial profile and economic realities.

An additional $3,000 was awarded to Leadership Akron to increase the diversity of nonprofit boards across the area. Leadership Akron aims to form a nonprofit culture in Greater Akron.

The Community Response Fund awarded the rest of the grants to other nonprofit organizations in Akron, such as the Akron Art Museum, Archbishop Hoban High School, First Congregational Church of Hudson, and many more.

Akron Community Foundation was established in 1955. To this day, the community foundation’s funds have awarded nearly $194 million in grants to qualified nonprofit organizations.
