The winner of the first $1 million prize is 22 year old Abbigail Bugenske of Silverton. The student winner for a college scholarship is ninth grader, Joseph Costello of Englewood.

The winners were selected in a random drawing on Monday afternoon. More than 2.7 million adults signed up to try their luck at winning the lottery. Over 104,000 Ohioan children between ages 12 and 17 entered the drawing for the four-year college scholarship, which includes room and board, tuition and books.

When Bugenske discovered she was one of the winners, she was in complete and total shock. She even initially thought the news of her winning was a prank of some sort.

I was screaming enough that my parents thought that I was crying and that something was wrong. I started yelling that I won a million dollars and I was going to be a millionaire.

Bugenske graduated from Michigan State University last year and currently works as an engineer at GE Aviation in Cincinnati. She is also pursuing a master’s degree in aerospace engineering at Ohio State University. Bugenske doesn’t plan to quit her job as an engineer. Instead, she hopes to donate some of her winnings and invest the remaining money. She also sees buying a used car in her future.

As for Joseph Costello, he is still deciding on where to go for college and what to study. Right now, he is considering Ohio State University.

Gov. Mike DeWine is happy that the incentive program is increasing vaccination rates.

We’re excited that this has inspired so many Ohioans to get vaccinated, and we’re thrilled to announce the winners of the first round of drawings.

Four more winners will be announced each Wednesday for the next four weeks. Vaccinated Ohioans need only to enter their names once to be eligible for all of the drawings.
