The King sure knows how to pack them in…

On June 1st, 2013, George Strait performed the final concert of the first half of his Cowboy Rides Away tour at the Alamodome, in downtown San Antonio, Texas.

Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert were on hand to open the show, along with more than 72,000 fans, breaking the venue’s attendance record George himself set in 2010. The event sold out in just 6 minutes…

The local KABB FOX station captured some of the craziness.

72,000+ at a concert, and it wasn’t even close to the most George has pulled in…

For the final show on his farewell tour, he played AT&T Stadium in Dallas in front of 104,793 people. That’s almost 32,000 more people than the Alamodome, an amount most artist only dream about playing in front of, and he did it on top of an all-time venue attendance record… that’s King stuff.

But still, the Alamodome that night was a special place.

George opened with “Here For A Good Time” and the crowd went (understandably) wild.

Oh to sip some Código and listen to this man tell stories in a Texas backyard, the things I would do…
