Sex Fiend Caught After Evading Police for 28 Years
During the summer of 1993 in Pasadena, Texas, two violent sexual assaults were reported within three days of each other. The same man committed both crimes, and now that man has been identified and caught.
Little is known about the first assault, but the second happened in a parking lot in an apartment complex on the 28th of June. The 38-year-old woman was held at gunpoint and had a stocking put over her head so she couldn’t see his face. From there, her attacker drove her to a field, laid her down and covered her in insect repellent. He then took her clothes off and assaulted her. She was then driven back to Pasadena and threatened with harm if she told anyone about the rape.
Though the woman never got a look at her attacker’s face, she went straight to the local hospital, where a sexual assault kit was performed. His DNA was collected, and it was only a few days later when his DNA was taken from another woman, who told a similar story to the first.
Now, nearly 30 years later, the cold case investigation team of the Pasadena Police can confirm that they have the man responsible for the two sexual assaults in custody.
William Thomas Ward, who’s now 62 years old, was arrested at his Anahuac home by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. The DNA taken from the two assault victims had been added to a database, which then matched with Ward. He has so far denied the allegations made against him.
"The Pasadena Police Department's Cold Case Unit wants to thank our law enforcement partners who assisted in the apprehension of the suspect and bringing him to justice," said Pasadena police detective Chris MacGregor. "We hope that this apprehension brings a sense of closure to the victims of this investigation."
