'In the beginning I really struggled': Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien admits she started drinking more during lockdown as she adjusted to homeschooling her children

Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien admitted she drank more during lockdown while she was adjusting to homeschooling her children.

The actress, 37, is mother to Scarlett, 12, who she shares with former Corrie star Ryan Thomas, and son Beau, six, who she shares with husband Adam Crofts.

Tina, best known for playing Sarah Platt, revealed she felt like 'a failure' when she first started homeschooling as all the schools in England shut down due to the pandemic.

She told The Mirror: 'I loved the time with the kids and actually in the end I quite liked the homeschooling. I’ll be honest, in the beginning I didn’t, I really struggled.'

She explained that she initially found homeschooling hard because she was trying to be the best mother she could be but admitted it isn't possible to do everything.

'You don’t know how to be a teacher, that’s why teachers are so incredible at what they do,' she said.

'But basically when I started giving myself a bit of an easier time and started drinking more, it was great, I loved it!'

Tina also revealed the family had their holiday to Croatia cancelled last year and they are hoping to return when it is possible to do so.

Earlier this month Tina revealed that Coronation Street filming had been temporarily forced to pause because of heavy rainfall.

She took to her Instagram Stories where she uploaded a video of the downpour on set, where she was scheduled to record scenes with co-star Jack P Shepherd, 33.

'Trying to film with the bros @jackpshepherd88 but too much rain,' wrote Tina across the video clip, as her footage scanned across her view of The Cobbles.

Adjusting: The mother-of-two (pictured with her children and husband Adam Crofts) said she started 'giving myself a bit of an easier time and started drinking more' and it helped her deal with the change to homeschooling

Seeing that Jack was also on his mobile phone while taking a break amid the downpour, Tina shouted over: 'Are you filming me, filming you, filming me, filming you?'

And Jack had indeed been filming the rainfall, sharing his own video his Instagram Stories, before the rain became seriously heavy.

The temporary pause in filming comes after Coronation Street's iconic pub The Rovers Return is set to be sold in the coming weeks after years of being owned by Johnny Connor.

In upcoming scenes Johnny decides to put the tavern on the market after deciding to split from wife Jenny, having learned she cheated on him while he was in prison for armed robbery.

Johnny will join a long list of Corrie veterans who have held the keys to the Rovers Return over the years, including Stella Price, Liz McDonald and Bet Lynch

In scenes set to this week, Johnny (played by Richard Hawley) surprises Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) by returning home after his early prison release, but is devastated to learn she slept with B&B guest Ronnie Bailey.

Realising there's no saving their marriage, a furious Johnny decides to put the pub on the market, with images obtained by The Sun showing the pub with a For Sale sign from estate agent Purple Bricks.

Same! Jack had also been filming the rainfall, sharing his own video his Instagram Stories, before the rain became seriously heavy

Annie Walker (played by Doris Speed) was the first and spent 50 years working behind the bar, but retired from those duties when she departed the cobbles in 1983.

Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear) became Corrie's most iconic landlady thanks to her iconic look of leopard print and high heels, but decided to sell up in 1995.

Natalie Barnes (Denise Welch) earned the Rovers' keys in 1998, but faced backlash from locals when she tried to sell the pub to The Boozy Chain, before the tavern was saved by businessmen Duggie Ferguson, Fred Elliott and Mike Baldwin.

Ahead of Johnny buying the pub in 2017 with wife Jenny, Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) had been the pub's landlady alongside her son Steve (Simon Gregson), but decided to sell up after his turbulent split from wife Michelle.
