A Wisconsin-based company went live with a new hotline over Memorial Day weekend staffed by registered nurses to provide expert advice on treating minor burns.

An expected surge in traditional summer activities - following loosensed travel and gathering restrictions nationwide - prompted Alocane of Pleasant Prairie, WI to establish the free Ask Alocane Burn Hotline.

"It's crucial to treat even the slightest of burns as quickly and efficiently as possible," said registered nurse and Ask Alocane Burn Hotline representative Laura Gardon, in a company press release announcing the hotline . "Small, minor burns deserve the same advice as any medical question and our team of nurses will be ready to put people at ease this summer when there are more burn incidents."

Alocane manufacturers over the-counter products to treat minor burns and abrasions. The company is a brand name under the Quest Products corporate umbrella. Alocane says the National Fire Protection Association pegs July as the peak month for grill fires in the United States. Contact burns, meanwhile, are also a common occurence and are prevalent among children under five who might accidentally touch or bump into a lighted grill.
