While Central Park is for sure the most famous New York park among foreign tourists, Bryant Park is another green gem of the Big Apple hidden in plain sight.

Located just south of Times Square, Bryant Park is a 9.6-acre (39,000 m2) public park in Manhattan.

Bryant Park, which first traces goes back to 1847 when it was called Reservoir Square, was a sleazy area in decline until the city turn it into a beautiful green oasis after a revitalization project in the 1990s by architecture firms Hanna/Olin Ltd. and Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates.

The park is frequented by locals, who come here for a lunch break at the Bryant Park Grill and Bryant Park Café or to play chess, artists performing during events like the Broadway in Bryant Park or Piano, and tourists enjoying the lively green area.

Many other activities take place at Bryant Park, like yoga classes, chess tournaments, ping pong matches, literary events, and even knitting circles can be found here.

Children will enjoy the all year round available Le Carrousel, a 14 animals carousel that revolves to the sounds of French cabaret music when not busy making soap bubbles, and the Winter Village with NYC’s only free admission ice skating rink.

The park is located adjacent to the New York Public Library.
