St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas (right flexor tendon) received a stem cell injection to treat calcification and will be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks, according to multiple reports Friday.

Mikolas made his first start for the Cardinals on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs but left after four innings. The righty had surgery in 2019 to repair the same tendon and also missed time earlier this year with a shoulder injury.

The 32-year-old began his career with the San Diego Padres in 2012 and pitched there for two seasons before making 10 starts for the Texas Rangers in 2014.

Mikolas pitched in Japan for the next three seasons but joined the Cardinals in 2018, when he went 18-4 with a pristine 2.83 ERA, making the All-Star team while finishing sixth in the National League Cy Young voting.

He struggled to a 9-14 record with a 4.16 ERA in 32 starts in 2019 before missing the entire 2020 season due to injury.
