Dana White looking for emergency back up for UFC 264 main event between Dustin Poirier VS Conor Mcgregor just incase
Earlier this year in January MMA fans around the world tuned in to watch the rematch between top ranked Lightweights Dustin Poirier & Conor Mcgregor. It was a lightweight bout that was a rematch of their previous bout which was at featherweight which took place almost 7 years ago at UFC 178 where Mcgregor won via TKO in under a minute in the first round.
The rematch was the complete opposite where Dustin Poirier came out on top with a masterful performance mixing in brutal leg kicks to immobilize Mcgregor's movement which led to a TKO victory with punches that dropped Mcgregor and had Poirier finish with another single follow up punch when Mcgregor was down.
Last month in early April it was announced and confirmed that the two will now have a trilogy fight set to take place July 10th at UFC 264 in Vegas when Poirier was given a choice to either fight for the Lightweight title or take this third fight and Poirier chose the latter *$*.
As everything is set in stone there is ALWAYS a chance a fighter cant make it to the fight due to an injury or another reason. UFC president Dana White, wants to make sure that if that were to happen that there is a main event that night that involves either of the two who is set to headline regardless if one or the other pulls out of the bout.
While talking to Bleacher Report, White said “I’m actually looking for someone right now to be the backup on that card, But nobody’s jumping out. Nobody’s kicking down my door.”
With the UFC 264 card already stacked as it is, it looks like Dana wont be happy unless the main event is something big!
As stated that as of this moment there is no one set to be the emergency replacement in case something were to happen but heres to hoping its not even necessary and that both fighters make it to fight night healthy and ready to put on a show.
