Colts' Frank Reich: Carson Wentz 'a dominant physical specimen for the position'

Quarterback Carson Wentz worked under Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich and offensive assistant Press Taylor when all three were employed by the Philadelphia Eagles, and Wentz reunited with the two via a trade between the clubs that became official in March.

Reich has since spoken glowingly of his new QB1 throughout the spring, and that trend continued Wednesday.

"Reconnecting with him has been very easy," Reich explained, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic. Reich went on to call Wentz "a dominant physical specimen for the position."

It was less than two weeks ago when Reich criticized the notion Wentz's flaws that resulted in the end of his Eagles tenure aren't fixable and added he is "confident that we got the right player." Before that, the coach shot down the idea that Philadelphia selecting Jalen Hurts in the 2020 NFL Draft sent Wentz "in a tailspin."

Reich also said earlier this month the trade for Wentz serves as "an opportunity to hit the reset button."

Wentz's poor production in 2020 (28th in the NFL with a total QBR of 49.6 and 34th with a 72.8 passer rating) has been well-documented, as is the fact the Colts can release the signal-caller after the 2022 campaign without suffering a financial penalty.

Reich's comments make for nice headlines ahead of Memorial Day, but Wentz and the Indianapolis offense will have to hit the ground running in September if the QB is to silence critics where and when it matters most.
