Tempe is a small city in the US state of Arizona. The city has been named after Vale of Tempe in Greece. The city has a population of around 200,000 but that does not mean it is short of food options. In fact, Tempe has some of the best places to satisfy your taste buds without being too heavy on your wallet.

While Tempe is not the most famous tourist destination and you may not visit the city just for the food but if you are on the road or pass by Tempe during your travel to another destination, here is a list of the top places in Tempe for eating on a budget.

1. The Chuckbox

Double Great Big One is a great burger to start your day with and will cost you less than $9. The buns are available in white or whole wheat choices.

Onion rings and Chuck Box Potatoes fries are delicious sides, and will only cost you $3 and $2, respectively.

2. Curry Corner

Another great find at 1212 E Apache Blvd is Curry Corner and this eatery offers affordable Indian and Pakistani food items. This place is vegetarian and vegan-friendly.

I love the Seekh Kebab Wrap here which will only cost you $10 and it is a blend of cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes with seekh kebab wrapped in their signature baked bread. Next time you are there, give Kheer a try. Kheer is an Indian dessert which is essentially a rice pudding but tastes like heavens.

3. Venezias New York Style Pizzeria

Located inside Valley Fair Shopping Center at 27 E Southern Ave, this cool eatery offers pizza, pasta, wings, etc. at affordable prices. Small Pizza here will cost you $10.25 plus taxes. Italian stallion is my go-to option and it is a spicy pizza loaded with Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, and jalapeños.

Crumb cake from Brooklyn is Venezia's specialty and costs a modest $4.75.

4. Someburros

Someburros is a Mexican eatery at 101 E Baseline Rd. This place has a load of choices in burritos, nachos, enchiladas, and much more. Borracho burro is my favorite thing to eat here. I always end up coming back to this option and it only costs $9.95. Their tacos are also one of the best in the city.

5. Chompie’s

Serving its customer at 1160 E University Dr, Chompie’s offers a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices. Chompie’s Awesome Crispy Onion Strings is their specialty and is very delicious and you will only shell $8.79 out of your pocket.

If you decide to stop here at the breakfast time, order Eggciting which is two eggs any style, served with home fries. It also includes the choice of their bagel with plain cream cheese, toast, or English muffin and you will only pay $6.99 for this hearty breakfast.
