Devon Gales to attend UGA

Will start classes in the fall

He was critically injured and left paralyzed while playing football against the Georgia Bulldogs six years ago: now Devon Gales is set to enroll as a student at the University of Georgia. Gales, who spent this past year working as an assistant football coach at Jefferson High School, is expected to start his UGA classes in the fall.

From WSB TV…

Gales’ mother Tanisha Deans-Gales shared the happy news on Facebook that her son has been accepted into the university. He will begin classes this fall.

Channel 2 Action News has been following Gales’ remarkable story and recovery since the former Southern University wide receiver suffered a paralyzing neck injury.

“Today I am so pleased to announce that Devon Gales has been accepted into the University of Georgia!!!! He will start classes in the fall!!!! Congratulations to Devon and all of his accomplishments! God has a plan for you son!!!!”

The injury happened when he collided with UGA kicker Marshall Morgan during a kickoff return in Athens on Sept. 26, 2015. It paralyzed him from the waist down, but Gales hasn’t given up on a chance to walk again.

and the years since, the two have formed a strong friendship and have kept in touch with each other, with Gales attending Morgan’s wedding.

Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes caught up with Gales in September, when he first shared his plans to return to the classroom. Gales said he wants a degree in communications.

“I need to finish, I only have 2 years left – and looking back time flies, so why not do it now?” Gales told Fernandes.
