The NHL fined Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman $5,000 on Friday for a dangerous trip against St. Louis Blues forward Sammy Blais.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
The incident occurred in the second period of the Blues’ 7-3 home victory over the Wild on Thursday night, the final game of the regular season for both clubs.

Hartman received a two-minute penalty for tripping at the 12:54 mark and Brayden Schenn scored for St. Louis on the ensuing power play.
Hartman, 26, tallied 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) and 33 penalty minutes in 51 games this season.
Minnesota opens its first-round Stanley Cup playoff series on Sunday afternoon against the host Vegas Golden Knights. St. Louis’ opening-round series with the Colorado Avalanche begins on Monday night in Denver.
