FC Cincinnati signed veteran defender Geoff Cameron to a guaranteed contract through 2022 with an additional option year, the club announced Thursday.

Cameron, 35, who played five seasons in the MLS with the Houston Dynamo from 2008-12, has spent the past nine seasons in England with Stoke City FC (2012-19) and Queens Park Rangers (2019-21).

“We have prioritized adding to our current backline and we welcome the opportunity to add Geoff Cameron to our team,” Cincinnati GM Gerard Nijkamp said in a release. “He has been a consistent contributor in nine seasons in England and we believe he will compete with our current players to earn regular minutes.”

A Massachusetts native who played collegiately at West Virginia and Rhode Island, Cameron was a third-round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.

He appeared in 116 MLS matches with Houston and tallied 11 goals and 15 assists, earning All-Star honors in 2009 and 2011 and making the Best XI squad in 2009.

Internationally, Cameron has earned 55 caps with the U.S. men’s national team, including appearances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
