Denton, Texas is a college town located in the state’s northern region. But Denton is more than just a college town. It’s also a fantastic destination to explore. Denton is a place where the trendy and the classic collide. I remember spending so many warm summer nights with good friends walking all around town.

Denton Attractions

Denton has a lot to bring visitors, from live music to outdoor recreation to historical museums. There are also other hidden gems in America’s Lone Star State, and Denton is one of them. Other notable attractions include the A-Train, little Chapel, Campus Theatre, and the Greater Denton Arts Council.

Little Chapel

The Texas Woman’s University campus is home to Little Chapel in the Woods. The Little Chapel has been called Denton County’s “Best Wedding Venue” for the years 2014-2017, and it holds over 100 weddings each year. Tourists and couples can't seem to agree about which part of the Little Chapel is their preference.

Bayless-Shelby House

This section of Denton County’s Historical Park has free seminars, guided and self-guided tours, instructor workshops, and more. The Bayless-Shelby House, which is open Tuesday through Saturday in the summer and Wednesday through Saturday in the winter, offers tourists a taste of life in rural Texas a century ago.

Greater Denton Arts Council

Most cultural activities in Denton are presented and supported by the Greater Denton Arts Council, including those held at Campus Theatre. In keeping with its commitment to “serve the city through arts education,” the GDAC provides a comprehensive calendar of activities, after-school programs, and summer camps to both locals and visitors.

Campus Theatre

Campus Theatre has a long and illustrious tradition of entertainment and reputation. Since Warner Brothers used Campus Theatre as their base of operations during filming, the world premiere of Bonnie and Clyde was held there in 1967. The theatre now has a semi-thrust stage and a 300-seat auditorium.

Ladies Historical Costume

If you like fashion, the Texas First Ladies Historical Costume Collection, which includes 47 gowns worn by Texas First Ladies dating back to the 1800s, is a must-see. The exhibition is rotated over the year to ensure that no two visits are alike, showcasing approximately 20 items from the collection at a time.
