Write Or Die
I play a writer’s version of Russian roulette where every month I have to write things and send them off to be considered for publication — in print or online — and the month that I fail to write, submit, or get anything published, I shoot myself… How are you?
That was a joke by the way — I know some of you are unfamiliar with the concept. No writers were harmed during the making of this bad joke.If it sounds a little melodramatic, extreme, or stupid, that’s because it is — but this is how my brain works and what it takes to get me writing.
Some of the more observant among you will have noticed that all I’m really saying, in a grumpy and sarcastic way, is that I write a lot. I could have just said that, of course, but where’s the fun in that?
In the spirit of stupid and futile gestures I’ve decided to try and publish something every day this month. Let’s see what happens.
To blog or not to blog
To blog, or not to blog: that is the question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings & arrows of outrageous spambots, or take arms against a sea of trolls, and by opposing end them?
Sorry, wrong meeting.
How to blog when you’ve nothing to say?
All you’re really doing is raking over the coals of what you’ve already written. Isn’t that what writing is? All writing is rewriting. So make your thoughts and share your thoughts and do not care at all about them because it’s fair to say that no-one else does. That’s not the point. That’s not the point at all. What is the point then? The point is to keep going, to say what is in you to say, because nobody else is going to say it exactly the way you do.
Once More With Feeling
Time and again, I feel like I don’t know how to write fiction. I balk at it.But talking about it and fearing it are not the same as doing it. So do it badly and eventually do it well. Copy others. Write out their words so you get a feel for how it is to write words that are stories. Because this is getting old.
