South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has officially hired a Columbia-based political strategist to lead his campaign for a second full term in office, reported the Office of the Governor. Governor Henry McMaster became the South Carolina governor in late 2016 when Nikki Haley joined the Trump administration and in 2018 he won his first full term when he defeated Democrat James Smith.

Mark Knoop is onboard as McMaster's campaign manager, the campaign told The Associated Press on Thursday. Per Linkedin, Knoop is owner of the company Forward Communications and Strategies as of January 2021.  He also is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Also, he has worked in various positions for various political campaigns in the past. His first political position was as an intern for Mitt Romney during his presidential run in 2007.

Mark Knoop is currently 33 and has additional experience on campaigns at statewide, federal and local levels, according to McMaster's official office. Knoop announced his excitement on his Twitter account recently. See below.

Most recently in 2020, Knoop served as political director for the U.S. Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham. He went on to defeat Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. This was considered an amazing feat due to the grand fundraising ability of Democrate Jaime Harrioson. The campaign including a huge amount of TV commercials was the most controversial in years in South Carolina.

Per South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s Official Office, Mark Knoop is “a real political talent who knows South Carolina inside and out. We are excited to have him lead our team as we share the message of our state’s great successes and bright future with the voters over the next 18 months."

Per Mark Knoop, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster “has a proven record of putting South Carolina taxpayers and businesses first, keeping the economy strong through this historic pandemic, and fighting to protect our borders, our elections, and our Constitution.” Knoop also stated "I’m excited to join South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s team.”

The election in question is a while away. South Carolina does not have a primary election for the South Carolina Governor until fall of 2022 which is more than a year away. Two Democratic party members have filed to be in their party’s primary. No one has yet filed to enter the South Carolina republican primaries for Governor as of yet.

South Carolina has not had a Democratic governor in over 20 years. So far, it looks like McMasters has a good chance to be re-elected. He has made many of his state very happy with the announcement of the end of federal unemployment in South Carolina. Many South Carolina business owners can not get employees to fill jobs they need to move forward after the pandemic. Most feel this will help lower unemployment numbers in South Carolina.

Current South Carolina Governor Henry Dargan McMaster is an American politician, attorney and member of the Republican Party who has been the 117th governor of South Carolina since January 24, 2017. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster worked for U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, in private practice, and as a federal prosecutor per SC.GOV.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and his wife, Peggy McMaster, have two adult children and reside in Columbia with their dog, Mac - a bulldog or First Dog of South Carolina as he was appointed as a puppy.  His earlier much loved dog was also a bulldog named Boots, who passed away in 2017.  South Carolina Governor Henry McMasters has had a lifelong love of English Bulldogs. Reports have not been out yet on what type of dog rules the Knoop house!
