A Small Taco Truck Delivers Big, Bold Flavors: What's For Dinner?
For months I passed by a taco truck parked in a church parking lot off Main Street in Hillsboro. I did not see many signs, so I did not know what it was.
We called it the Mystery Taco Truck. One day we decided to stop by and try it. We were so glad we did!
It turns out this taco truck serves up specialties from the area of Sonora, Mexico. I had never tried these regional treats before, and we were excited to dig in.
If you are looking for something new to try this weekend, this taco truck is here for you! I invite you to explore their menu and try a few new dishes. It is such a treat to discover such a hidden gem in a random parking lot.
Recently, we stopped by again. The truck is only open on the weekends, Saturday, and Sunday. We now discovered it is called Tacos El Sonorense.
Even though this truck has no online presence, it is well worth visiting. It is reliably open during lunchtime every weekend.
This time, we tried three of their Sonoran specialties. We always love to try at least three dishes at each place to make sure we understand what their cuisine is all about. The rule of 3 has served us well!
The first one was a Vampiro. It is a tostada topped with your choice of meat, cheese, cabbage, salsa, and more. I love that they also serve it with a garnish of a fresh lime slice and radishes. We ordered two to share, and they were so delicious! I love the crunch of the tostada and the meltiness of the cheese.
The second item we ordered was a Sonoran hot dog. It is a must if you go here. This hot dog comes on a bun with grilled onions, mayonnaise, cabbage, your choice of meat, and more. Such an explosion of flavors!
The third and final item we ordered was the Sonoran-style tacos. These come on flour tortillas and are so yummy. They come with your choice of meat, cabbage, and salsa.
They also gift you some green and red salsa to take with you and add to your taste. The red salsa is very spicy, but I enjoyed it.
When we were here before, we tried three other specialties.
The first one was their steak fries. These are heavenly! They are a big box full of crinkle fries topped with carne asada, cheese, and other yummy toppings. We saw someone enjoying them while outdoors near the taco truck, so we had to try some too!
Another specialty I highly recommend is their molletes. These are French bread rolls served with refried beans, your choice of meat, and toppings such as salsa and cabbage. These make a great breakfast, lunch, or snack. I prefer them with Mexican sausage or chorizo.
Their mulitas are a beautiful crispy quesadilla with your choice of meat and toppings. So yummy! Make sure to order more than one! I love that you can customize your orders here with whatever sounds best to you.
If you are still hungry, you can order a side of french fries or rice and beans.
To quench your thirst, they have a large selection of Jarritos Mexican sodas on hand in a large cooler in front of their food truck.
This taco truck is located in the Valley Hope Community Church parking lot in Hillsboro.
I invite you to stop by on a weekend and order some food to go!
