Our family has traveled lots of fun places over the years and enjoyed many unique foods on our journeys, but one of the most delicious routes we’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy is the Donut Trail in Butler County Ohio. Donuts are a mainstay in this area that boasts one of the highest number of donut shops per capita in the Midwest, at one shop for every 19,000 residents.

Established in 2016, the Butler County Donut Trail highlights locally-owned, mom-and-pop donut shops and is the first donut-centric trail in the country.

Along the donut trail, collect stamps and fill in an official Butler County Donut Trail Passport at each required location on the list. You can pick up a passport at any participating donut shop or download off of the Butler County Donut Trail website. You can also collect your passport at any participating donut shop.

The Donut Trail in Butler County Ohio spans 80+ miles and takes 4 to 5 hours to complete. The participating businesses have a combined 384 years of delicious donut-making experience. Each donut shop on the donut trail has unique donut offerings that make their establishment stand out. Some of these unique flavors include Pineapple Fritters, S’mores, Maple Bacon, Tiger Tails, Banana Pudding, Raspberry Cheesecake, and Reese’s Cup.

Once you finish the Donut Trail, redeem your completed, each passport can be redeemed for a free Donut Trail T-shirt. There’s a new Donut Trail T-shirt every year and you can do the Donut Trail all in one day, or split your stops into several visits over days or weeks. Since this donut tour is self-guided, you can start and finish wherever you choose.

Not up for finishing the Donut Trail all in one day? That's OK! The Donut Trail is open daily, and can be completed at your own pace. Keep in mind the trail is self-guided, and you can start and finish wherever you'd like! Be sure to check the hours and days of operation for each participating donut shop and to keep in mind that many of the donut shops do sell out very early in the day. To make sure you can get your donut fix, it's best to do the donut trail in the mornings and be sure to check the hours and days of operation for each participating donut shop.

The Donut Trail is a big hit with a variety of groups, from families looking for a fun weekend getaway to bachelorette parties to family reunions. Over 18,600 people have completed the trail to date, including visitors from 21 different countries and 50 states. It has also helped the local economy, bringing in over $2.5 million in economic impact to the region.

We completed the Donut Trail during our visit to Butler County, Ohio and this is definitely a delicious way to celebrate and try out some of the best sweet breakfast treats that this area has to offer. It’s a great activity for families or groups and a way to see the area while enjoying some fabulous donuts as well.
