Ready? Without further ado, let's have a look at the 2 amazing theaters in Tucson, Arizona!
Fox Tucson Theatre
Let's start the list off with the Fox Tucson Theatre, which can be found in downtown Tucson. The Fox Tucson Theatre opened for the first time in 1930. The opening night was apparently a party that nobody would want to miss out on, and the theatre went on to be considered the crown jewel of entertainment in Tucson.
Nowadays, the Fox Tucson Theatre has a seating capacity of well over one thousand, and there are over 150 events per year.
The official website of the theatre describes the overall vision of the theatre thus:
"Our vision is to serve as a leader and collaborative partner in a thriving Tucson cultural landscape. Central to our purpose is the ongoing enjoyment and continued vitality of a cherished and historically significant venue. Our success rests in how the theatre and its programs embody and facilitate a positive sense of place and connectedness, holding cherished memories and creating transformational new arts experiences for Tucsonans of all ages and backgrounds."
The motto on the same website says:
"We make memories. We make connections. We make Tucson proud."
Most of the events featured on the theater's website are for autumn. Hopefully, our lives will resume back to normal before then and we'll be able to go visit the theatre and have a lovely evening.
The Gaslight Theatre
The Gaslight Theatre's history goes all the way back to 1977 when the founding group got together to do theatre. The location of the theatre has moved a few times, and the size of the audience has only grown.
And what possibilities and events does the theatre offer to anyone who has found themselves in Tucson? The official website is clear on that:
"We have musical comedy melodramas 6 nights a week, and 5 different shows per year. Westerns, sci-fi spoofs, our famous Christmas Shows, and everything in between- you can find it all here at The Gaslight! Cheer the hero and Boo the villain while enjoying your favorite beer or soft drink, pizza, ice cream, and mountains of free popcorn! We also have concerts every Monday night! Here at The Gaslight, we’re about great entertainment, great food, low prices, and giving you a fun place to forget about your troubles, sit back, relax, and laugh!"
Nowadays, The Gaslight Theatre is rated as number 6 out of 335 things to do in Tucson on Tripadvisor, which means it's quite a popular attraction in Tucson.
The shows are actually taking place outdoors at the porch of the theatre at the moment (at the date of writing this article, 6th May 2021) - and they should keep going until 6th June 2021.
If you'd rather stay at home, don't worry - the theatre also offers virtual shows that you can watch from the comfort of your home. I, for one, would love to see "Henry Porter and the Sorcerer's Secret".
Culture is one of the sectors that have suffered the biggest blow during the corona crisis, which is yet another reason why we should try our best to support them now and in the future.
These are the 2 great theaters in Tucson, Arizona, so don't hesitate to check out their shows when you have the time and options. Have fun and above all, stay safe.
