Manchester City have reached the Champions League final for the first time in their history after finishing the job against Paris Saint-Germain.

The team that is destined to become Premier League champions, went into the second leg in command of the tie having won 2-1 in Paris last week.

And a brace from Riyad Mahrez meant Pep Guardiola’s men sailed through to the Istanbul final where they will face either Chelsea or Real Madrid.

Once City had made it two - meaning PSG would need four goals to progress - the French champions looked in danger of unravelling.

Angel Di Maria was given his marching orders five minutes after City’s second for a petulant stamp on Fernandinho when the two were off the pitch.

Marco Veratti then picked up his customary booking, before the two teams almost became embroiled in a bust-up when Phil Foden had a ball thrown at his head.

Presnel Kimpembe and Danilo were also cautioned in the final stages for rash tackles, with BT Sports pundit Owen Hargreaves claiming they had "lost their heads".

The Argentinian’s dismissal was, incredibly, PSG’s tenth of the season as Mauricio Pochettino has thus far failed to curb long-standing disciplinary issues within the squad.

The collapse marked an eerie resemblance to the second-half at the Parc des Princes, when Arsene Wenger claimed Pochettino’s side were unable to handle the occasion emotionally.

"After the 1-1, they collapsed completely. They become emotional and aggressive in a stupid way,” he told beIN Sports last week.

"What was very interesting tonight is that you could see that when it was 1-1, PSG mentally collapsed.

"This is as well the consequence of this team losing eight games in the league. This has an impact in this kind of situation.

"When it’s 1-1 the team knows they have lost many games, they carry that. It's not like the season before when they were unbeatable in the league.

"You could see the confidence dropped considerably and the mental impact when Man City equalised, for the semi-final of a Champions League, was too big."

City can now wrap up the second part of their treble at the weekend, where any type of result will see them crowned Premier League champions.
