(DENVER, Colo.) The Colorado Rockies have appointed Bill Schmidt, the club's vice president of scouting, as their new temporary general manager following Jeff Bridich stepping down from the position on April 26.

The club made the announcement Monday, stating that Schmidt brings over 30 years of scouting experience to the position, having worked with the Rockies for a total of 21 years. The Rockies previously stated that they will employ someone as a permanent General Manager after the current season ends.

“After discussions with the baseball department heads, we have come to the conclusion that Bill is the right person for interim GM,” said team president Greg Feasel in a statement. “Bill’s experience and his relationships from top to bottom throughout our organization, including the players, coaches and staff on the field, more than qualify him for this role.”

According to The Denver Post, Schmidt's promotion to interim General Manager was one of Feasel's initial crucial resolutions made in his new role as team president, as he was promoted to the role the same day Bridich resigned. Schmidt worked as the vice president of scouting for a total of 13 years.

Prior to working with the Rockies, Shcmidt scouted for other major league baseball teams including the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and the MLB Scouting Bureau.

Schmidt will now focus his attention on supervising all facets of the club's baseball operations until a permanent General Manager is hired after this season comes to an end.
