Paddington 2 has replaced Citizen Kane as the top-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes

In an act of sheer justice, Paddington 2 has achieved recognition as the greatest film of all time - surpassing Citizen Kane.

An 80-year-old negative review of the previous frontrunner has been added to Rotten Tomatoes, meaning the 1941 Orson Welles film has lost its perfect score and the 2017 live-action romp is now OFFICIALLY considered better.

To some, this may seem controversial, but, to us, Paddington 2 is a pretty perfect film with a great plot, great cinematography, an iconic Hugh Grant performance and - most importantly at all - great heart.

Although Orson Welles masterpiece is considered a key film in the modern fabric of cinema and essentially changed the way we understand film we guess Paddington 2 just charmed people more. Sorry, Orson.

Regardless of your opinion of both films and how they compare to one another, Paddington 2’s success has garnered some great social media reactions.

Paddington 2, starring Hugh Grant and Sally Hawkins sees the bear wrongly imprisoned for theft and his family and friends scrabble together to find the real culprit.

Citizen Kane, on the other hand, is a drama about the life story of a wealthy newspaper publisher that revolutionised cinemas use of narrative, music and cinematography.

First published by The Chicago Tribune in 1941, the negative review that has dragged it down the ranking is called: “Citizen Kane Fails to Impress Critic as Greatest Ever Filmed”.

It said: “Its sacrifice of simplicity to eccentricity robs it of distinction and general entertainment value.”

Ouch.

Paddington hasn’t been that active on Twitter as of late. His last contribution remarked on the weather and was nine days ago:

Nevertheless, we are sure he will be thrilled to hear the news.
