Erin Molan has shared a moving tribute to her father, after his 'aggressive' cancer diagnosis.

Jim Molan, 71, the Liberal Senator for NSW and former Army major general, appeared on Erin's radio show The Morning Crew on Friday, and the 38-year-old was moved to tears after her father thanked her for her 'extraordinary' support.

'It reminds you in times like this, the extraordinary support families give… it reminds you of what is important in the world,' Jim said.

Later in the show, Erin said while becoming tearful: 'I will get emotional because people will be aware we got some sad medical news a few weeks ago, but I've always been so immensely proud of Dad.

'He's lived an entire life of service to others and I've grown up looking at him like he's my hero. He's my best friend and we speak every single day.'

The sports presenter was choked up as she continued: 'I couldn't love him more and I'm so incredibly proud of him.

'He's an absolute fighter and when we were hit with the news, all we wanted was hope, and we got hope and there is no one I would back more to beat this fight because we need him too. We love you Dad so much.'

Earlier this month, the politician announced he has been diagnosed with an 'aggressive' form of cancer.

'Whilst this news has come as a shock, I have many reasons to be positive,' he said in a statement.

She added: 'He's lived an entire life of service to others and I've grown up looking at him like he's my hero. He's my best friend and we speak every single day'

'I am receiving the best possible care from my clinicians and have the love, support and prayers of my family.'

Mr Molan will begin treatment as soon as possible, vowing to fight the disease.

'I have never been afraid to fight the battles that need fighting and this is no exception,' he said.
