Phones constantly ringing as wedding venues prepare for busy season ahead

PITTSBURGH — It may not look or feel like wedding season is upon us, but after a year of cancellations and delays, it’s hard not to find a venue that isn’t swamped with calls and questions.

“For at least May, I know we have multiple heavy days Friday, Saturday, Sundays, and then we are completely booked through November,” said Phipps Conservancy event sales manager Katelyn Larsen.

She said it’s a good problem to be this busy.

Things are not completely back to normal in the state though. When it comes to venues, the state is allowing up to 75% maximum capacity. With wedding venues differing in size, that means a different number of people who will be allowed.

For Phipps, they can allow about 100 people outside and roughly 50 indoors, which is just below half of their normal capacity. The facility is also serving only wine and beer after dinner and not for the entire duration of the reception, something Larsen said was “received a lot better than I thought it was going to go.”

“People are like, ‘Beer and wine, ok at least we have something,’” she said.

Another venue told Channel 11′s Joe Arena that it was getting extra bookings because people found other venues were serving nonalcoholic drinks after dinner service.
