DMX loved to watch 'The Golden Girls' according to former co-star Gabrielle Union
People are watching Gabrielle Union-Wade's November 2017 appearance on First We Feast's Hot Ones through a much different lens after iconic rapper DMX (born Earl Simmons) died at 50 Friday.
The episode went viral in part because the 48-year-old actress and author impersonated DMX, whom she co-starred with in the 2003 film Cradle 2 the Grave, while eating the spiciest wing sauce ("The Last Dab") the popular internet interview series has to offer.
"Did you know that DMX loves The Golden Girls?" she said, "and that's a real fun fact. He watches it in his trailer. There was a dog-biting incident with one of the PAs, who was sent to go get him for set. And so, after a while, nobody wanted to go get him, and so, I would be sent to to get him because I'm a dog person. He'd be like, 'Gab! Have a drink! Watch The Golden Girls! This s--t is funny!' We would have a Heineken and maybe sometimes a little Crown, and we'd watch The Golden Girls. And he would laugh hysterically."
The Being Mary Jane star eulogized her late friend on Instagram after his passing from a heart attack and "catastrophic cardiac arrest" was confirmed:
DMX had been rushed to a White Plains, New York, hospital April 2. The Grammy-nominated emcee was placed on life support and never regained brain activity.
X was the face of a new era in hip-hop from 1998 to 2002 with universal smashes such as "Ruff Ryders' Anthem," "Party Up (Up In Here)" and "X Gon' Give It to Ya." His aggressive delivery, gruff voice and visceral lyricism made him unmistakable.
