Austin FC Partners to Save Dogs
2021-04-09
Austin, TX--One of the cutest partnerships a dog-loving town like Austin could dream of has come into being.
Austin FC announces a community partnership with Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) to save more dogs' lives. Not much could be cuter.
“Austin FC’s partnership with APA! is unique in sports yet incredibly authentic in Austin,” said Austin FC President, Andy Loughnane. “By featuring APA! dogs as honorary mascots at Austin FC home matches, our Club and supporters can help at-risk dogs in Austin by introducing them to our dog-loving community.”
Austin FC is an American Professional Soccer Club, based in Austin, TX. The club will compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the 2021 season and their home stadium will be the Q2 stadium in northcentral Austin.
Austin Pets Alive! is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports Austin's position as a "no-kill" model city and its effort to advance the movement across the country. Austin's NPR station says the shelter has saved more than 90,000 pet's lives over the last decade but has asked the city to reconsider its position on being a "no-kill" facility at the start of the pandemic, stating the position is unattainable.
The partnership between the soccer club and the pet organization brings together the love of sports and the love of pets in an effort to save more lives.
Adoptable pups will appear at every home game at Q2 stadium in Austin. Each game will showcase honoree mascots who are adoptable and will be part of entertaining events on the field leading up to the match. You can go watch soccer and come home with a new pet.
This is a natural extension for Austin FC, which is a "dog-loving" club. Many of the players are dog lovers themselves.
"APA! has been fortunate enough to be a part of the Austin community for a little over a decade now,” said Dr. Ellen Jefferson, APA!’s President and CEO. “We've grown with this community and are excited to take a seat next to Austin FC and be a part of this new development in such a unique way! This is a really fun adventure to be on!"
The Austin soccer club will offer additional promotion for pets through social media outreach and on its Facebook page.
On Twitter, the announcement reveals cuteness that can warm any dog lover's heart, and hopefully, their home too, with this message: "Major League Soccer team @AustinFC has partnered with the city's long-running no-kill shelter, @austinpetsalive, to help get dogs adopted."
The sports and pet partnership could be revolutionary for professional sports. Austin FC's first home game is in June, after a grueling succession of away games to start the season. The team has 17 games at Q2 Stadium this season.
Austinites looking to add furry friends to their families can enjoy soccer and see their cuteness first-hand. Austin is one of the most pet-friendly cities there is. You can take your pooch with you just about anywhere, and a lot of people do. If you go out for a meal with family or friends, it's likely your dog can go with you. Need to stop by the mall and pick something up? It's no problem to take your dog with you to an outdoor mall. Wherever man goes in Austin, it's almost always possible for man's best friend to be his sidekick.
Now you can enjoy watching soccer and bring home a forever friend. A partnership that fosters love and entertainment for a lifetime. Warm your home with the love of a new pet and save a life in the process.
