Former Miami Hurricanes head coach Randy Shannon has been named a senior defensive analyst at Florida State, the Seminoles announced Monday.
It will be the latest stop on a circuitous career path around the state for Shannon. He was a starting linebacker for the Hurricanes’ 1987 national title team and started his coaching career in Miami, first for his alma mater and then for the Dolphins. He won two national titles as a ‘Canes assistant and went 28-22 as their head coach from 2007-10.
After stops at TCU and Arkansas, Shannon was a Gators assistant from 2015-17 and served as their interim coach in that final year, after Jim McElwain’s departure. Shannon went from Florida to UCF, where he was the Knights’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
“Randy Shannon is a tremendous addition to our staff,” FSU coach Mike Norvell said. “I have all the respect in the world for the person and coach Randy Shannon is. His unique perspective will be valuable to Coach Fuller and the rest of our defensive staff, while his relationships in Miami and throughout the state of Florida will be a great benefit for our entire program.”
