Grey's Anatomy star Kate Walsh beams as she promotes a children's charity in Perth

American actress Kate Walsh has called Australia home since March last year. 

And the 53-year-old Private Practice star is putting down roots in the beachside city of Perth on the country's west coast. 

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Kate shared a slew of photos at a book launch that will benefit the BeKids charity, a non-profit organisation that works with children in developing countries.

The actress beamed as she huddled close to the kids while reading the book WheeleeBirds by Joan Peters. 

In one photo, the American star had her arms outstretched as she nestled in for a group shot with the kids. 

Another photo saw her sitting on a couch as kids surrounded her while she read the children's book. 

Warm: The actress was all systems go as she chatted to kids at the book launch before engaging in official festivities

Another photo saw her standing up with kids on a stage.  

'This Sunday I had the privilege to support the amazing #BeKids charity for the magical book launch of #WheeleeBirds by Joan Peters,' she wrote.  

'They're a 100% volunteer-driven non-profit organization that works with children in developing countries to create opportunities that improve their living environment and educational aspirations'

Kate has been living in Perth since the pandemic hit last March. 

The beloved star found herself 'stuck' in the Southern Hemisphere after pandemic lockdowns began to take hold while she was vacationing down under back in March. 

She quickly fell for the country.

'I didn't really want to go back to New York in the middle of a pandemic when it was pretty gnarly to say the least," she said. 

'I couldn't go home initially, and now that I can, I don't really fancy going back. When I have my own mother saying don't come home, my 86-year-old mum… we are in a very challenging time!'

Claiming to have found a new 'passion project', Kate revealed recently her plans to help bolster Australia's local film industry after it suffered enormously due to global pandemic.

The Grey's Anatomy star recently told 2GB's Jim Wilson she felt 'very grateful' to be in Australia during the COVID-19 crisis.

'Honestly, I feel very lucky,' she said. 'It's kind of a crazy situation: it's like being in an alternate reality compared to the rest of the world.'
