CLEVELAND — Former Tribe pitcher Dan Otero, who was a free agent, announced his retirement from pitching and will immediately move into a new role—working for Cleveland's club under the title "Assistant, Baseball Operations."

Otero had a 13-year professional pitching career, spending eight years in the Major Leagues. Of those eight years, Otero pitched for the Tribe for four years from 2016 to 2019 and pitched in the 2016 World Series.

Last season, Otero spent the year in the Yankees organization.

In his new role with the Tribe, Otero will focus on assisting all facets of the department, including supporting and enhancing the Major League Advance Scouting process, the team said.

Otero will also assist the pitching analysis teams.

The Tribe said Otero will mostly work remotely from his home in Miami.
