BEREA, Ohio — We’ve all hopefully moved our clocks forward for daylight saving time as we spring ahead an hour (don’t forget the clocks on your oven and in your car.) As we all have time on the brain, a clock shop in Berea does as well—and is bouncing back after a tough year.

Located on Front Street, Suburban Clock has been in business since 1953.

The shop sells clocks and offers service and restoration of all types of timepieces.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, time stopped for Suburban Clock.

“We were shut down for a while obviously like everybody else,” said Brian Pasela of Suburban Clock. “We thought maybe when we reopened it might be slow.”

But in fact, it was the opposite. Business at Suburban Clock came back booming with repairs flooding in and keeping the clock shop busy.

With daylight saving time, Pasela anticipates even more business as customers seek assistance in resetting their clocks and adjusting the time.

And while most people use their smartphones and watches, laptops and tablets to tell the time—Pasela doesn’t think his industry is going anywhere soon.

“There’s still something special about having a grandfather clock in the home.”
