Bradley Walsh gets the giggles over a question about beavers in The Chase

The Chase star Anne Hegerty has refuted the suggestion that Bradley Walsh is set to be replaced as host of the popular ITV quiz series.

Reports had cited recent activity from bookmakers – lowering the odds on Walsh’s exit – as reason to suspect that Walsh could soon be on his way out.

Walsh has hosted the popular ITV quiz show, in which contestants must face off in a trivia contest against the experts known as the “chasers”, since its debut in 2009.

Chaser Hegerty, known as “The Governess” on the show, reacted to one report which claimed that Phillip Schofield was being tipped to replace Walsh, describing it as an “absolute non-story” .

She pointed to the recent announcement of The Chase Extra, a spin-off series set to debut on ITV Hub, and clarified that it did not point to any greater shake-up of series personnel.

“What an absolute non-story,” she wrote. “None of us is going anywhere. “The Chase Extra is just a little show on the ITV website, not replacing anything.”

“ I daresay betting websites do have odds on practically anything happening,” added Hegerty in a follow-up tweet. “But it doesn’t mean they’re GOING to happen.”

The Chase airs at 5pm everyday on ITV.
