Jack Wilshere and Joao Pedro were sent off in the final seconds of Bournemouth's clash with Watford amid ugly scenes and a mass brawl at the Vitality Stadium.

With the Cherries leading 1-0 courtesy of a 61st minute Arnaut Danjuma goal the Hornets were desperately seeking a late equaliser.

As the clock ticked over the six minutes of additional time Watford's Pedro went in with a late tackle on Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma in the middle of the pitch, and was shown a second yellow card.

Lerma then shoved Tom Cleverley after the two exchanged words, and this sparked a huge fight between the two sides, with practically every player involved.

Former Arsenal star Wilshere was at the forefront of things, appearing to clash with Cleverly as long as a number of others.

And after taking his time to analyse the situation the referee showed a yellow card to Watford's Ismaila Sarr and then a second yellow to Wilshere almost three minutes after the initial foul by Pedro.

It was certainly a dramatic end to a fiery encounter, but the result means Jonathan Woodgate got off to a winning start in his first game in charge of Bournemouth.

The Cherries have now moved up to fifth place in the Championship, with Watford remaining third.

Wilshere recently spoke out about his career in an interview with the Daily Mail, and admitted he has a number of regrets about things have panned out for him.

Speaking about how he coped with injury niggles, he said: "I was living the dream. I was 19, playing for Arsenal.

"We were challenging for the Premier League, in the Champions League. No one was going to tell me I needed a rest.

"That's one of my biggest regrets - I wish I'd listened to physios a little more, learned more about my body."
