The revamped lounge features a library, dedicated office space with PCs, sunroom, Betty's Burgers station, and a bar and wine cellar where guests can sample or purchase wines from renowned South Australian vineyards.

At over 1000sqm, the open-plan space also includes high-definition televisions throughout, complimentary Wi-Fi, and showers with palatial floor-to-ceiling mirrors.

WMK Architecture Director Russell Grady said the lounge is unlike anything else in Australian airports, setting the scene for the airline's new artistic direction.

'In true Virgin Australia style, we've really elevated the playful elements in signage, furniture and vibrant lighting features, adding pops of colour and energising moments to enrich the lounge's natural material palette,' Mr Grady said.

'It's a venue that's delightfully Virgin and provides frequent flyers with a warm and relaxing space when they fly.

'The lounge will provide travellers with a sense of informality and ease; a place to pass the time in true comfort.'

Sarah Adam, General Manager of Product and Customer Experience, said builders and designers carried on with creating the lounge during the pandemic while the rollout was pushed back.

'We have had to adapt the space, largely making sure we were managing the local regulations around social distancing. That was mainly regarding seating so we had to scale back the number of seats,' she said.

But implementing social distancing measures actually has its benefits to guests, making their stay even more convenient.

In an Australian airline first, Virgin guests can order food and beverages directly to their lounge or table by scanning a QR code and placing an order on their phone.

Separate dining areas have been built to cater to all guests' eating preferences, including large social tables and boutique-style banquet seating for more private dining.

'The advancement will not only provide a seamless table service for guests, but it will reduce movement and further enhance the Covid-safe environment,' Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said.

Virgin also created a space for Australia's top wineries to bring their cellar door to the lounge for seasonal wine tastings for guests.

The Gallery Lounge, which Virgin has dubbed the 'chill-out zone,' is complete with lounge chairs and flat screen televisions.

The Long Stay section is tucked away from the main entrance and provides privacy for guests, adorned with canopy ceilings, greenery, on-trend velvet couches and bar-style seating.

For the first week of the lounge's opening, guests will be able to choose from various options of Betty's Burgers. Virgin and the popular burger chain are both owned by Bain Capital

The airlines other domestic lounges will adopt the expanded menu in the coming weeks.

Ms Hrdlicka said the lounge represents a new chapter at Virgin Australia.

'We plan to make significant investment in our lounges over the next few years. The new lounge we've unveiled today will be the foundation for the Virgin aesthetic and experience we will roll out across the network,' she said.

'We know our capital city lounges are highly-valued by our frequent flyers and we're reimagining the experience in a very Virgin way. Adelaide Lounge is fun, relaxed and a place that everyone will feel welcome and comfortable.'

Virgin's Adelaide lounge still has the same entry requirements as its other domestic locations.

Business class passengers, Velocity Gold, Platinum and VIP members, lounge pass holders, and AMEX Platinum Charge Card and Centurion cardholders are able to access the revamped lounge.

Virgin Australia is expected to open its seventh and final domestic lounge in Canberra next month.

Domestic borders have reopened after weeks of various closures on certain states.

South Australia had banned travellers from Victoria during the Holiday Inn outbreak at Melbourne Airport which seeped into the city.

The grand opening comes as state leaders put pressure on national cabinet over opening domestic borders following the Australian vaccine rollout.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she will continue to press the issue of internal borders fully opening up.

'We should not shut down borders just because there are a few cases we might be worried about. That is no way to run our nation, internally,' she said on Tuesday.

Scott Morrison said it's 'very possible' that Australia could reopen to other nations as more Aussies become vaccinated against Covid.

'But I've never got ahead of myself on this,' he said.

The prime minister said vaccines were likely to change Covid risks which could lead premiers to abandon dreaded snap lockdowns between states.

'You only use a tool for as long as you need that tool,' Mr Morrison said.

'If you don't need the tool anymore, you put it back in the box. We are getting to that point.'
