Mississippi man accused of fatally stabbing woman with sword

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — A Mississippi man is accused of fatally stabbing a woman with a sword, authorities said.

Joseph Dean Kersh, 65, was arrested by Rankin County deputies on Wednesday, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to a medical call to a residence in Star on Wednesday and found Kersh complaining of leg and foot pain, WLBT reported.

While inside the home, deputies located the body of a woman, the television station reported.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, had multiple trauma wounds on her body and stab wounds on her back, WJTV reported. Investigators found a sword next to the victim’s body, the television station reported.

Kersh was taken into custody and taken to an area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. He was later released and taken to the Rankin County Jail.

The case remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
