Georgia activist group known as The Street Groomers led a protest with community residents of Butts County after allegations that a Butts County Deputy made racist comments during the execution of a search warrant in late 2020. According to activists, Sheriff Gary Long has not investigated the matter nor provided an opportunity to meet with concerned residents about the allegations. Based on witness accounts, one of Sheriff Long's deputies referenced Black people as "monkeys" and said they should be in "cages". There has been no official statement from the Butts County Sheriff's Office disputing the claim.
Founder of The Street Groomers, "Big Haroun" said, “Oh yeah man, it’s bad down there. Butts county has a lot of racism still present based on our conversations with local citizens and according to them, much of it comes from the Trump loving sheriff. Residents are fed up and we will support them until a new sheriff is elected."
