Bournemouth draft in Harry Redknapp to help new caretaker manager Jonathan Woodgate
Jason Tindall was sacked last week following a string of defeats
Harry Redknapp has been drafted in by caretaker manager Jonathan Woodgate to help manage Bournemouth following the sacking of Jason Tindall last week.
Tindall, the long-time right-hand man to former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, was dismissed six months into the job after a string of four defeats left Bournemouth well outside the running for the automatic promotion which the club targeted on relegation from the Premier League last season.
Woodgate was asked to steady the ship in the short term while a permanent appointment is found, and the caretaker manager has called upon the experience of Redknapp to guide him.
Redknapp, who lives locally, is familiar with the Cherries having played for the club in the 1970s before returning to Dean Court as manager between 1983 and 1992. He also managed Woodgate at Tottenham towards the end of the England defender’s career.
Woodgate spent one season as Middlesbrough manager before joining Bournemouth as a first-team coach only 10 days ago, and now finds himself in charge of the team. He presided over a winning start as Bournemouth ended their losing streak with a 3-2 home win over Birmingham City on Saturday.
