A short club statement read: 'Our player Joao Felix have tested positive for COVID-19. He is isolated and serving quarantine at home.'

Felix, who moved to Atletico from Benfica for a club-record £113m in the summer of 2019, has made 25 appearances for Diego Simeone's side in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals.

However, the striker had scored just once in his last 11 league outings. Nonetheless, Atletico are currently on a win streak in the league of eight games, with Luis Suarez firing up front.

After their weekend win against Cadiz, they are 10 points clear at the top of the table from Barcelona in second, with a game in hand.

That lead at the top comes after city rivals Real Madrid lost 2-1 at home to Levante.

Simeone and his side are hunting their first top-flight crown since 2014, when they secured the La Liga title on the final day of the season.
