Britney Spears' ex Jason Alexander was arrested on DUI and drug charges in Nashville

• Alexander, 39, was taken into custody January 26 
• He was booked in connection with DUI, drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance 
• He passed on taking a blood alcohol content test 
• He's due to appear April 30 in court to answer to the charges 
• He was married to pop star for 55 hours in 2004  

Britney Spears' ex-husband Jason Alexander was arrested in Nashville last week in connection with DUI and drug charges.

Alexander, 39, was taken into custody January 26 in connection with driving under the influence, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance, Sheriff’s officials told Page Six.

Authorities in Tennessee told the outlet that Alexander passed on taking a blood alcohol content test, breaking the state's implied consent law.

He was subsequently held on a $2,500 bond, released from custody later in the day, police told the outlet.

He's due to appear April 30 in court to answer to the charges.

Alexander was in the headlines in January of 2004 after he wed the Lucky singer in a Las Vegas chapel in a marriage that was annulled less than three days later - 55 hours, to be exact. Later that year, Spears wed backup dancer Kevin Federline, who she shares two sons with.

Spears and Alexander knew one another from childhood in Kentwood, Louisiana, and she had flown him to Las Vegas for New Year's celebrations.

Alexander, speaking with ABC News in February of 2012, said that it was the Grammy-winner's idea to tie the knot in Sin City.

'She just came out and asked me,' he said. 'She was like, "Well, let's get married." And I was like, "Sure. You know, let's do this."'

He added they were drinking and 'had party favors' amid the revelry.

Alexander appeared at a Free Britney protest last summer in downtown Los Angeles, supporting the efforts of fans backing the Toxic vocalist in her legal battle for her conservatorship with her father Jamie.

In July, Alexander chat with Conspiracy Theories & Unpopular Culture podcast host Isaac Weishaupt about the situation and his familiarity with it.

'When I was with Britney in 2004, she was already telling me stuff, even before there was a conservatorship,' he said. 'She was not in control of producing her album or writing her music, or anything. She wasn't really happy then.

'They've used that control over her. I don't think she's really known how to fight against it. Yes, she does support the #FreeBritney movement. I do know that for a fact. She's really been a prisoner. She's been playing along with the script, but kind of waiting it out.'
