Travis Scott made headlines on Sunday, Nov. 7 after a mass casualty event at his sold-out Astroworld music festival in Houston that killed eight people and injured many more. Scott was on stage performing as audience members collapsed and were trampled by crowds rushing the stage. Multiple instances of drug overdoses were treated as well, according to CNN. An investigation is currently ongoing. Scott is refunding all ticket sales.

Travis Scott first broke into the hip-hop scene in 2015 with the release of his highly anticipated first album, “Rodeo.” His next two successful albums were “Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight” in 2016 and “Astroworld” in 2018.

In 2019, Travis Scott performed at the Super Bowl LIII halftime show, gaining recognition from a wider audience. He also went on an “Astroworld” tour in 2019, which grossed $53.5 million and was the top hip-hop roadshow all year.

Scott has harnessed his popularity as a rapper to sign partnerships with a number of big brands, further increasing his income. He’s created a line of Nike shoes called Cactus Jack, which Forbes estimated earns him $10 million a year.

Scott also partnered with the online game “Fortnite” in 2020 to host a free concert. The event attracted 27 million views and earned him an estimated $20 million in merchandise sales.

Another big partnership for Scott was when he created a celebrity meal for McDonald’s. He earned $5 million for the endorsement and $15 million for selling related merchandise.
