(WASHINGTON) Vice President Kamala Harris has sworn in Democratic Georgia Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock and her successor, Democratic California Sen. Alex Padilla on Wednesday.

The new Democratic senators along with Harris' tie-breaking vote will provide the party their first chamber majority since 2014.

Warnock and Ossoff won a Jan 5. special election against their Republican incumbent challengers. Padilla, most recently the Secretary of State of Calfornia, was chosen by California Gov. Gavin Newsom to replace Harris in December.

With their slim majority, Democrats will be in charge of COVID-19 and economic relief negotiations, former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial, confirming President Biden's cabinet and other pressing issues.
