(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is reportedly gathering members for a coaching staff, including some assistants at the college level, just in case he opts in to become the next head coach of the National Football League's (NFL) Jacksonville Jaguars, according to league sources, per ESPN.

Meyer and the Jaguars held a meeting Friday on owner Shad Khan's boat in Florida, but this was not the first time they met. According to sources, the two have had regular communication.

The two sides are expected to make a decision this upcoming week, per sources.

Meyer won three national championships and holds a college record of 187 wins and 32 losses after time at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State. He won two titles — in 2006 and 2008 — with the Gators, after a 65-15 record through six seasons in Gainesville. Meyer last won a national title in 2014 with the Buckeyes, leaving the program with an 83-9 record after seven seasons.

Doug Marrone was fired on Monday after the Jaguars posted the worst season in franchise history, losing 15 games in a row after starting the season with a win over the Indianapolis Colts. Marrone won 25 games and had 44 losses — including playoffs — after four seasons in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville let opponents score 492 points last season, becoming the fifth NFL team since the 16-game schedule expansion in 1978 to allow at least 20 points in every game, according to ESPN. The Jaguars were listed 28th or worse — out of 32 teams — in yards per game, rushing and scoring.
