On Tuesday, the Jonesboro Cardinals returned to action for the first time since before the holiday break to host the Banneker Trojans in a region match up. The Cardinals, one of the handful of unbeaten teams in the state, looked to also remain perfect in the region standings, while the Trojans looked to pick up their first region win. The Cardinals opened up the game with a very solid performance as they started the game on a 7-0 run and eventually would go up by as many as 20 points when they led the Trojans 42-22. By halftime, The Cardinals would hold a 45-30 lead over Banneker as Jonesboro’s Devon Rainey led the way with 16 points. He would finish with 23 points.
However, the Trojans never quit fighting as they would outscore the Cardinals 15-11 in the third quarter and would trail 54-45 heading into the fourth quarter. Banneker would then outscore Jonesboro once again, 16-11 this time, but it would not be enough before time expired on them as they would fall 65-61. Jonesboro’s Nate Adams would add 16 points in the Cardinals win.
