EastEnders star Shane Richie dreams of winning lotto jackpot and opening holiday camp
Good morning campers, this is Shane Richie welcoming you to another day of fun in the sun.
Yes, the EastEnders star has revealed he dreams of saying Hi-de-Hi! to punters at his own holiday camp.
Shane, who played Albert Square’s Alfie Moon, kickstarted his showbiz career in Pontins on the Isle of Wight and wants to go back to his roots.
He said: “If I won the lottery I wouldn’t knock it on the head but I’d open up my own theatre. I’d like to open my own holiday camp with the best cabaret and food, live shows and accommodation.
“I would do that in Devon, the east coast or southern Ireland.”
After his start as a Pontins bluecoat, Shane became a stand-up comic and, in 2002, joined the cast of EastEnders. He left the soap in 2019 to star in the hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
In 2017, he released his debut country album. He now plans to make another record and tour with his band.
He said: “I want to do stuff that makes me happy not the things I have to do.”
Shane, 56, finished fourth on last year’s I’m A Celebrity and told fellow campmate AJ Pritchard’s podcast: “What I have learned from doing I’m A Celebrity is that the things we think are important are not. Like this business we are in is not as important as we think it is.”
The dad of five added: “We want a career as long as possible but this business has a way and it will give up on you.
“I am always aware of that – but my family is the most important thing to me.”
