Colorado wide receiver suspended ahead of Alamo Bowl matchup with Texas

Texas is set to kick off against Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

On the day of the game, 247Sports reported Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver La’Vontae Shenault was suspended for a violation of department policy.

The freshman playmaker appeared in four games for the Buffaloes this season, compiling 17 receptions for 193 yards and averaged 11.4 yards per catch. Shenault’s potential was on display in Colorado’s 20-10 win over San Diego State, during which he hauled in six catches for 64 yards.

According to Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell, Shenault was not able to travel with the team, “When you’re suspended, you’re not allowed to come to the bowl. Vontae was with us through Wednesday of the week before we traveled over the weekend. So, yeah, he was down at his older brother’s game and posted some things. But that’s the reason he was there.”

Colorado was likely hoping to exploit Texas through the air, as the Longhorns passing defense ranked last in the Big 12 this season.
