Julian Fernandez brutally knocked OUT of the ring just seconds after inviting Frank Sanchez to punch him in embarrassing showboat as Cuban star continues his stunning rise up the heavyweight ranks
Frank Sanchez ended his heavyweight clash with Julian Fernandez by knocking his opponent out of the ring on Saturday evening.
Fernandez had teased the Cuban throughout the fight and even begged Sanchez to strike him in the face at one point.
The 28-year-old duly obliged by striking the Mexican so hard he fell through the ropes and onto the ring steps below.
The outcome did not come as a surprise given Sanchez was seen sparring with headline act Alvarez before the fight.
The Mexican fighter comfortably beat Callum Smith later in the night on a unanimous points decision.
Sanchez is now eyeing up a fight with Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Usyk, who may take the WBO belt if current Anthony Joshua takes on Tyson Fury next.
Briton Joshua may have to vacate the belt if he opts to fight Tyson Fury in a mouth-watering all-British unification fight in 2021, instead of taking on Usyk in the mandatory WBO challenge.
However, Usyk claimed on Saturday that he would be willing to step aside and allow the Joshua-Fury fight to take place.
Sanchez's manager Mike Borao said: 'It's looking like some chance Usyk may pick up a WBO vacated title in 2021 (if Joshua vs Fury happens). In that case, it would open a small window for Frank to fight for a title in 2021.
'Frank is world ranked in the WBO and a bout between two of the best recent amateur cruiserweights fighting for a heavyweight title would be intriguing.'
