NEW YORK (WBEN) -- Vice president Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence received the COVID-19 vaccine along with Surgeon General Jerome Adams in a live event at the White House Friday morning aimed at reassuring Americans the vaccine is safe.
The vaccinations took place just after 8 a.m. at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Pence said, "I didn't feel a thing" and called the shot a "medical miracle."
“The American people can be confident: we have one, and perhaps within hours two, safe vaccines,” Pence said, referring to the Pfizer vaccine and the expected FDA approval for Moderna’s vaccine. “Building confidence in the vaccine is what brings us here this morning.”
The vice president's office had announced Thursday that the Pences would "publicly receive a COVID-19 vaccine to promote the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and build confidence among the American people."
