Delaware man accused of stealing jewelry booked after crash

GREENWOOD, Del. (AP) — Authorities said a Delaware man who stole jewelry and a car from a residence was arrested when he crashed the vehicle after a pursuit with troopers.

Jesse A. Nichols, of Seaford, was booked into a correctional Institution last week on a nearly $16,000 bond, the Delaware State Police said in a news release.

Troopers said the pursuit happened after a relative of the person whose house was burglarized discovered the vehicle was missing, and contacted another family member. That family member saw the car traveling on the Milford Harrington Highway, and contacted authorities.

A traffic stop was then initiated on the car, but troopers said Nichols failed to stop. He was taken into custody without incident when he crashed the vehicle.

Several pieces of stolen jewelry and “property” from the residence was found inside the vehicle, the release said.

Nichols, 37, faces many charges, including second degree burglary. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
